If your picture is breaking up, you have lost channels, or your aerial came down in a storm, call Roger at Advanced Aerials. Based in Tiptree near Colchester, we cover all of Essex and carry everything needed to fix most aerial problems in a single visit.

We use professional signal metering equipment to diagnose the fault before touching anything, so you get a straight answer about what the problem is and what it will cost to fix — no guesswork and no unnecessary work.

What We Repair

  • Storm-Damaged Aerials — straightening and re-aligning bent aerials, replacing broken elements or the full aerial if it is beyond repair
  • Poor or Breaking Signal — meter testing to identify whether the issue is the aerial, the cable, a connector or an amplifier
  • Broken or Waterlogged Cable — replacing deteriorated coaxial cable from the aerial head down to your TV points
  • Corroded Connectors — F-connectors and coax connectors at the aerial head and at wall plates are a common failure point, especially after a few years of exposure
  • Aerial Re-alignment — if your aerial has shifted on its pole or bracket, we re-point it to the nearest transmitter and lock it back in position
  • Failed Distribution Amplifiers — if you have multiple TV points fed from one aerial, a failed amplifier will drop signal or cut it entirely
  • Complete Aerial Replacement — when the aerial is too old or damaged to be worth repairing, we fit a new high-gain digital aerial in the best position for your property
  • Communal System Faults — headend equipment and distribution cabling in blocks of flats, HMOs and commercial premises

How We Diagnose Aerial Faults

A lot of aerial problems get misdiagnosed over the phone. Rather than guessing, Roger brings professional signal strength and quality meters to every job. These give a clear reading of signal level and bit error rate at the aerial head, at the TV point, and at points in between — which means we can pinpoint whether the problem is the aerial itself, the cable run, a connector, or a splitter.

Common Causes of Poor Signal

Damaged Aerial

Elements bent by wind or corrosion on older aerials. Sometimes repairable, sometimes a replacement is the more reliable fix.

Waterlogged Cable

Coaxial cable that has been exposed to moisture loses its shielding. Signal drops, pixelation and total loss of channels are typical symptoms.

Corroded Connectors

The F-connector at the aerial head is exposed to weather year-round. Even a slight corrosion on the pin causes a significant signal drop.

Alignment Drift

A pole clamp that has worked loose over time allows the aerial to rotate away from the transmitter. Pixelation in high winds is a giveaway.

Failed Amplifier

Distribution amplifiers in multi-point systems fail over time. When they go, signal drops on every TV in the house simultaneously.

Transmitter Issue

Planned engineering work on the local transmitter can cause temporary signal loss. We check before visiting to rule this out and save you a call-out fee.

After the Repair

Every repair comes with a 12-month guarantee on parts and labour. If the same fault returns within a year, we come back and fix it at no extra charge. We also carry full public liability insurance on every job.

If you need a new aerial rather than a repair, see our TV aerial installation page for full details on new aerial fitting across Essex.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a TV aerial repair cost?
Most aerial repairs cost between £60 and £150 depending on what needs doing. A re-alignment or connector replacement is usually at the lower end; a full aerial replacement with new cable runs more. We give you an exact price before starting — no surprises.
Can you repair my aerial the same day?
In most cases, yes. We carry a full stock of aerials, cable and connectors, so we can diagnose and fix most problems in a single visit. Call us in the morning and we can usually get to you that day.
Why is my TV signal breaking up?
The most common causes are a damaged or corroded aerial, waterlogged cable, a loose connector at the aerial head, or a weak signal that needs amplifying. We bring signal metering equipment to pinpoint the fault on site rather than guessing.
My aerial was damaged in a storm. Do I need a full replacement?
Not always. If the aerial element is bent but the cable and connections are intact, we can often straighten and re-align rather than replacing the whole unit. If the aerial body is cracked, the elements are missing, or the cable has been pulled from the connector, a replacement is usually the more reliable long-term fix.
Why have I suddenly lost all channels?
A sudden total loss usually points to a failed cable, a knocked connector, or a faulty distribution amplifier. It can also be caused by planned transmitter engineering work — we check this first before booking a visit, so you do not pay a call-out for something that will fix itself.
Do you repair communal aerials in flats?
Yes. We work on IRS (Integrated Reception Systems) for blocks of flats, HMOs and housing associations. Faults are usually in the headend equipment or distribution cabling, which we can test and replace.
